BJP Leaders Charged for Illegal Bengaluru Roadblock Protest

BJP’s unauthorized protest disrupts Bengaluru, defies court order.

In a bold defiance of a Karnataka High Court order, several BJP functionaries, including state president B.Y. Vijayendra, face legal action for staging an unauthorized protest in Bengaluru’s Gandhinagar constituency on September 24, 2025. The demonstration, aimed at highlighting the city’s pothole-ridden roads and poor infrastructure, violated a court mandate restricting protests to Freedom Park. Bengaluru police registered a case against the BJP leaders under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for disobeying a public servant’s order and relevant provisions of the Karnataka Police Act, following a complaint by a police officer.

The protest, led by BJP district president Saptagiri Gowda, saw party workers, including Gandhinagar BJP Mandal President Karunakar Yadav, Pradeep, Jayaram, and others, block R.T. Street around 11:30 AM. For over an hour, the demonstrators raised slogans against the state government, drawing attention to the deteriorating road conditions but causing significant inconvenience to commuters. The roadblock, which lasted until 1:00 PM, disrupted traffic in the busy constituency, prompting swift police action.

The Karnataka High Court’s standing order prohibits protests and processions across Bengaluru, except at designated areas like Freedom Park, to ensure public order and minimize disruptions. By ignoring this directive, the BJP’s actions have sparked controversy, with critics accusing the party of prioritizing political stunts over public convenience. The case underscores rising tensions between the opposition BJP and the state government, as the former intensifies its campaign against alleged administrative failures. As legal proceedings continue, the incident highlights the challenges of balancing public dissent with judicial regulations in Karnataka’s capital.
