Bengaluru Celebrates RCB's Back-to-Back IPL Title With Police Ensuring Safe Revelry

Royal Challengers Bengaluru supporters celebrated across Bengaluru late into the night after the franchise secured its second consecutive Indian Premier League title with a commanding victory over Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Fans gathered at major junctions and public spaces across the city, waving team flags, chanting slogans, and celebrating the achievement while police maintained a strong presence to ensure public safety.

The celebrations came under heightened security arrangements due to the tragic stampede that occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the team's title celebrations last year, which claimed 11 lives. Learning from that incident, Bengaluru police deployed personnel across key locations, erected barriers, and monitored crowd movement to prevent any untoward incidents as thousands of supporters took to the streets to mark the occasion.

Many fans expressed their joy at witnessing another championship-winning campaign from the Bengaluru-based franchise. Supporters particularly praised star batter Virat Kohli, whose unbeaten half-century played a crucial role in guiding the team to victory. Several fans said they had traveled from different parts of the country and joined celebrations because of their admiration for Kohli and the franchise's continued success in the league.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar said authorities had implemented routine security measures throughout the city and appealed to the public to celebrate responsibly. Special drives against drunken driving were conducted, while several roads known for high-speed vehicle movement were temporarily restricted. Police officials said the objective was to ensure that celebrations remained peaceful and did not inconvenience residents or lead to law-and-order issues.

Meanwhile, celebrations extended beyond Bengaluru, with players and their families enjoying the moment in Ahmedabad following the conclusion of the two-month tournament. Kohli and his wife, Anushka Sharma, joined the festivities after the final, while captain Rajat Patidar described the title as a memorable birthday gift. Patidar also remembered the victims of last year's stampede, acknowledging the emotional significance of the victory for the franchise and its supporters.

The memory of the 2025 tragedy remained an important backdrop to the celebrations. Following extensive discussions, inspections, and infrastructure improvements, authorities had cleared the return of top-level cricket to the Chinnaswamy Stadium earlier this year. As a tribute to the 11 victims, RCB players wore jersey number 11 during match days, while the franchise and the Karnataka State Cricket Association permanently dedicated 11 seats at the stadium in their honor, ensuring that those who lost their lives are remembered alongside the team's achievements.
