Banished and Questioned: Ex-Prince Andrew Faces US Scrutiny Over Epstein Connection
US lawmakers seek ex-Prince Andrew’s testimony over Epstein ties after King Charles strips royal titles.
Sixteen Democratic members of the US House Oversight Committee have formally requested that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, submit to a transcribed interview regarding his longstanding association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as part of an ongoing probe into the late financier's trafficking network. The letter, dated November 6 and addressed to Mountbatten Windsor at Royal Lodge, cites "well-documented allegations" against him and his friendship with Epstein—which began in 1999 and continued after the latter's 2008 conviction—as grounds for believing he holds "valuable information" about Epstein's co-conspirators and enablers.
Timed just one day after King Charles III formally revoked his brother's birthright title of prince via letters patent published in The Gazette, the congressional demand underscores that stripping royal privileges has done little to quell transatlantic calls for accountability. The committee referenced newly released emails and the posthumous memoir of Virginia Giuffre—who died by suicide in April at age 41—detailing fears of retaliation and claims that Mountbatten Windsor sought dirt on his accuser. Giuffre alleged she was trafficked to him three times as a minor, accusations he settled out of court in 2022 for millions without admitting liability.
Ranking member Robert Garcia stated, "Rich and powerful men have evaded justice for far too long. Now, former Prince Andrew has the opportunity to come clean and provide justice for the survivors." While Congress lacks authority to compel a foreign national's testimony, the request—requiring a response by November 20—intensifies pressure amid Mountbatten-Windsor's eviction from his 30-room Royal Lodge mansion and relocation to private accommodation on the Sandringham estate.

The dual developments mark the culmination of a scandal that has dogged the British monarchy for over a decade, reignited by Giuffre's memoir and Epstein-related document dumps naming Mountbatten-Windsor in flight logs and financial records. With no immediate comment from his office, the former royal—now eighth in line to the throne but stripped of all styles, titles, and honours—faces mounting isolation as victims' advocates hail the moves as long-overdue steps toward transparency and justice.
