Balochistan Violence Claims 57 Militants and 10 Security Forces in Major Operations

57 militants and 10 security personnel killed in coordinated attacks and counter-operations across Balochistan.

Balochistan witnessed a major escalation in violence over the weekend, with at least 57 militants and 10 security personnel killed in coordinated attacks across 12 locations, officials confirmed. The surge in violence followed the Baloch Liberation Army’s announcement of the second phase of “Operation Herof,” targeting security forces and civilians. Rail and road links were temporarily suspended amid heightened security alerts.

The attacks were reported in several districts, including Quetta, Gwadar, Makran, Hub, Chaman, and Naseerabad. Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Balochistan government, said that the assaults targeted police, Frontier Corps personnel, and civilians. Tragically, a family of five, including a woman and three children, was killed near Gwadar during the clashes. Officials are still verifying the identities of the deceased militants and whether the fatalities included members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Security forces responded with intensive operations, engaging militants in heavy gunfire and conducting clean-up measures in areas from which insurgents fled. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the attacks were “averted by the forces” but confirmed the deaths of 10 policemen and paramilitary personnel. Bomb disposal squads also successfully defused explosives planted on a railway track in Naseerabad, preventing further casualties.

The spike in violence comes days after security forces killed 41 militants in Panjgur and Harnai districts. Nationwide, intensified counter-terror operations have resulted in 52 militants being neutralized across multiple provinces, including six in Punjab and five in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a TTP commander was among the casualties.

Balochistan has seen a steady rise in violence over recent years. Data from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) showed fatalities in the province increased nearly 22 percent last year, from 787 to 956. Meanwhile, the Islamabad-based Pak Institute for Peace Studies reported a 34 percent rise in terror incidents nationwide in 2025, highlighting ongoing security challenges. Officials emphasized that the recent operations are part of intensified efforts to curb insurgency in the region, which remains a critical hotspot for both militant activity and civilian vulnerability.
