Ather Energy Raises Electric Scooter Prices Citing Raw Material and Forex Costs

Ather Energy will raise electric scooter prices by up to Rs 3,000 from January 1, 2026.

Ather Energy, a leading Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has announced a price increase of up to Rs 3,000 on its electric scooters, effective January 1, 2026. The revision affects models across its portfolio, including popular variants like the 450 series and Rizta family. The company attributed the hike to rising global costs of raw materials, fluctuating foreign exchange rates, and escalating prices of key electronic components essential for EV production. This marks the first adjustment in nearly a year, underscoring ongoing supply chain pressures in the electric vehicle sector.

In a statement, Ather Energy emphasised its efforts to absorb much of the cost inflation over the past months to maintain affordability for consumers. However, sustained increases in input expenses have necessitated the partial pass-through to customers. The exact quantum varies by model, with the maximum hike capped at Rs 3,000. Despite the revision, Ather assured that its scooters remain competitively priced, supported by features like advanced battery technology, fast charging, and smart connectivity.

The decision comes amid a broader trend in India's EV industry, where manufacturers grapple with volatile commodity prices and dependency on imported components such as lithium-ion cells and semiconductors. Government incentives under schemes like FAME and state-level subsidies continue to offset ownership costs, but raw material volatility—driven by global demand and geopolitical factors—has strained margins. Ather's move follows similar adjustments by competitors, reflecting sector-wide challenges in scaling sustainable profitability.

Ather Energy, backed by investors including Hero MotoCorp and Tiger Global, has established itself as a premium player in the urban electric scooter market with a focus on performance and design. The company operates experience centres across major cities and has expanded its charging infrastructure network. Current bookings placed before the year-end will be honoured at existing prices, providing a window for prospective buyers.

As India pushes toward electrification targets, such price fluctuations highlight the need for localised supply chains and stable component sourcing. Ather remains committed to innovation, with upcoming models and software updates aimed at enhancing value. Customers are advised to check the official website for model-specific revised pricing effective from the new year.
