Arvind Kejriwal Criticises Centre Over ED Action Against Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora

Arvind Kejriwal alleges political misuse after ED raids Punjab minister.

A political controversy erupted on Saturday after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the Centre of “ill-treating” Punjab following fresh Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids linked to Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora. The raids were conducted as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation involving Arora and individuals allegedly connected to him. The developments triggered sharp political reactions from the AAP leadership.

Kejriwal alleged that the Union Government led by the BJP has been using central agencies to pressure Punjab in recent years. In a post on X, he claimed that the state has been “coerced” and unfairly targeted through repeated investigative actions. He further said that the timing of ED raids after elections in other states reflects a pattern of political pressure against opposition-ruled regions.

In his remarks, Kejriwal also launched a strong personal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of misusing central agencies for political purposes. He compared the alleged actions to historical oppression, saying Punjab was being “tortured” politically. He added that despite such pressure, Punjab would resist and uphold its rights, drawing references to the state’s historical legacy and resilience.

The AAP leader further alleged that issues such as water-sharing disputes, control over Punjab University, and delays in rural development funds reflect systematic attempts to weaken the state’s administrative and economic autonomy. He claimed that Punjab has repeatedly faced challenges in securing its rightful resources and accused the Centre of interfering in state matters beyond its constitutional scope.

Kejriwal also referred to recent political developments, including the defection of several AAP Rajya Sabha members to the BJP in April. He alleged that investigative pressure through agencies like the ED contributed to these political shifts. He further claimed that Minister Sanjeev Arora, despite being under investigation, did not switch parties, and therefore continued to face scrutiny.

The fresh ED raids have intensified the political confrontation between the AAP and the BJP-led Centre, with both sides trading allegations over misuse of investigative agencies. While the ED has not issued a detailed public statement on the latest searches, the case is reportedly linked to a newly registered money laundering investigation involving multiple individuals connected to Punjab’s political and business circles.
