Anil Menon, Two Cosmonauts Launch to ISS Aboard Soyuz MS-29
NASA's Anil Menon launches to ISS aboard Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft.
NASA astronaut Anil Menon is set to make his first journey into space aboard the Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft alongside Russian cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina. The three-member crew is scheduled to launch to the International Space Station (ISS) from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Tuesday. The mission marks another collaborative spaceflight between NASA and Roscosmos, continuing international cooperation aboard the orbiting laboratory despite broader geopolitical tensions.
The Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft is scheduled to lift off at 8:17 pm IST (10:47 am EDT). NASA will begin its live coverage of the launch at 7:15 pm IST (9:45 am EDT) through its official website and YouTube channel, allowing viewers around the world to follow the mission from launch preparations through liftoff. The agency will also provide updates throughout the spacecraft's journey to the International Space Station.
Following launch, the Soyuz spacecraft is expected to reach the ISS using a fast-track rendezvous profile that requires only two orbits around Earth. Docking with the space station is scheduled for 11:26 pm IST (1:56 pm EDT). Once the spacecraft successfully docks, standard safety procedures and pressure checks will be carried out before the crew is permitted to enter the orbital laboratory.

After the required post-docking inspections are completed, the hatch between the Soyuz spacecraft and the International Space Station will be opened, officially welcoming the new crew members aboard. NASA is expected to resume its live broadcast ahead of the docking sequence and continue coverage through the hatch-opening ceremony, providing viewers with updates on each stage of the mission.
Anil Menon's first spaceflight represents a significant milestone in his career as a NASA astronaut. Joining him are experienced Roscosmos cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina, who will work alongside the existing ISS crew on a range of scientific experiments, technology demonstrations and station maintenance activities during their mission in low Earth orbit.
The International Space Station continues to serve as a global platform for scientific research and international collaboration, hosting astronauts and cosmonauts from multiple space agencies. The Soyuz MS-29 mission reinforces the ongoing partnership between NASA and Roscosmos, with the crew expected to contribute to research spanning human health, space technology and other scientific disciplines during their stay aboard the ISS.
