Andhra Pradesh CM’s Bold Push: Telugu to Be Taught in Singapore Schools!

Naidu’s visionary plan aims to connect 40,000 Telugu speakers in Singapore with their cultural roots.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made waves during his five-day visit to Singapore, urging the city-state to introduce Telugu as a second language in its schools. Speaking to a vibrant crowd of 2,000 at One World International School Digital Campus, Naidu emphasized the importance of preserving Telugu heritage among the estimated 40,000-strong Telugu diaspora in Singapore.

Naidu, on a mission to position Andhra Pradesh as a global investment hub, also launched a CXO Club to tap into the expertise of Telugu-origin executives worldwide. He engaged with the Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, Dr. Shilpak Ambule, to advocate for Telugu’s inclusion in the school curriculum, alongside languages like Tamil, Hindi, and Punjabi, which are already taught as mother-tongue languages in Singapore.

The event, hosted by the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRT), drew Telugu entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Naidu announced plans for a Global Export-Import Cell to boost entrepreneurship among the 3 million Non-Resident Telugus across 128 countries, who remit approximately Rs 30,000 crore annually to Andhra Pradesh.
