Andhra Minister Gummadi Sandhyarani Faints At Independence Day Event In Tirupati

Tense moments prevailed at the Tirupati Police Parade Grounds on Saturday when Andhra Pradesh Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy suddenly fell ill while attending the 80th Independence Day celebrations. The minister had been standing on the stage and addressing the gathering for more than an hour when he appeared to lose his balance and collapsed to one side, prompting immediate concern among officials and security personnel present at the event.

Reddy's personal security staff and officials quickly rushed to his assistance after he became unsteady. They supported the minister and helped prevent him from falling further, while medical personnel at the venue attended to him without delay. The incident briefly disrupted the Independence Day programme as those present waited for the minister to be assessed by doctors.

According to doctors who examined Reddy, he reportedly experienced a sudden drop in blood pressure, which left him weak and caused him to lose his balance. Medical staff monitored his condition following the episode, and officials later indicated that his health was stable. No further details about his condition were immediately available.

The Independence Day celebrations were being held at the Tirupati Police Parade Grounds, with government officials, police personnel and other dignitaries participating in the national event. The incident occurred during the programme as Reddy was addressing the gathering. The prompt intervention by his security personnel and officials ensured that he received medical attention at the venue.

Reddy, 74, is the Andhra Pradesh Endowments Minister and represents the Atmakur Assembly constituency. He began his electoral career with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1983 and subsequently served as a minister in the government led by former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao. He later moved to the Congress and held portfolios including Information and Public Relations, Municipal Administration and Finance.

After political stints with the Congress and YSR Congress Party, Reddy returned to the TDP ahead of the 2024 elections. He won the Atmakur Assembly seat and was subsequently inducted into the Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government as a minister. His brief health episode during the Independence Day event caused concern at the venue, but officials later reported that his condition was stable.
