Amritsar Military Sites Under Watch After Intelligence Flags Pakistan-Linked Threat
Intel alert raises security across Punjab.
Security agencies have heightened vigilance across Punjab following an intelligence input about a suspected plan by the Shahzad Bhatti network to target military installations in Amritsar. The alert reportedly identifies two Pakistan-based operatives, Rana Bhai and Malik, and warns of a possible attack on an Army establishment in the district. The input has been shared with Punjab Police and other security agencies, which have been instructed to treat the information with utmost seriousness and strengthen security around sensitive military installations.
According to the intelligence input, reconnaissance of Khasa Cantonment in Amritsar and the Budha Theh military establishment near Beas has allegedly already been carried out. The information has prompted security agencies to review arrangements around the installations and increase vigilance in areas considered vulnerable. The reported identification of Pakistan-based operatives has added to concerns over the possibility of cross-border networks attempting to facilitate attacks against strategic or military targets in Punjab.
The alert assumes particular significance in view of an earlier explosion near Khasa Cantonment. On May 5, a low-intensity blast occurred close to the cantonment's boundary wall. Punjab Police subsequently said an improvised explosive device, or IED, had been used in the incident. The explosion damaged a tin sheet along the perimeter of the military facility, prompting investigators to examine whether the blast was part of a deliberate attempt to target the installation.

Investigators had suspected that the May incident was a planned attack, but authorities have not established any connection between that explosion and the latest intelligence input. The distinction is significant because the current alert is based on intelligence concerning an alleged plan linked to the Shahzad Bhatti network, while the earlier blast remains a separate case unless investigators establish evidence connecting the two incidents.
Security agencies have been directed to take precautionary measures around the identified military establishments and remain alert to possible threats. The intelligence input has also prompted heightened surveillance and security coordination among agencies responsible for protecting sensitive installations. Authorities are expected to assess the credibility and specificity of the information while taking preventive steps to reduce the risk of any potential attack.
The latest warning comes amid continued security concerns in Punjab over alleged Pakistan-linked networks and attempts to target strategic locations.
