Ambassador Gor Urges India, US To Bridge Differences And Strengthen Strategic Partnership
Gor Calls For Stronger India-US Partnership.
US Ambassador Sergio Gor has called on India and the United States to address economic and regulatory differences through closer cooperation, saying both countries need to work as "true partners" to unlock the full potential of their commercial relationship. Speaking at the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce's national convention on Tuesday, Gor emphasised the importance of predictable taxation and regulatory frameworks for businesses operating across the two markets. Gor was speaking at the convention themed "Redefining the India-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."
He said the relationship between the two countries had significant untapped potential and that removing obstacles faced by businesses would be critical to strengthening economic ties. According to the ambassador, companies need greater certainty about taxation, regulations and other policies before committing to long-term investments and expansion. The US envoy also highlighted the need for candid and trust-based discussions on export controls and intellectual property protection. He said strong intellectual property safeguards would give innovators greater confidence to invest, develop new products and scale their businesses without fear that their ideas or technologies could be inadequately protected.
Greater engagement on these issues, he suggested, could help create a more supportive environment for cross-border innovation and investment. Gor also pointed to the growing flow of investment between the two countries. He said the US Embassy in India had ranked first among American embassies globally in attracting more than $20 billion in investment. He described investment by Indian companies in the United States as mutually beneficial, noting that such businesses gain access to one of the world's largest and most dynamic markets while contributing to economic activity in America. "When Indian companies invest in America, it is a win-win situation. They get access to one of the world's most dynamic markets," Gor said.

He argued that stronger commercial engagement could benefit both economies by encouraging companies to expand operations, create jobs and develop new business opportunities. The ambassador acknowledged that differences between major trading partners are inevitable but suggested that they should be managed through dialogue rather than allowed to undermine the broader relationship. Addressing friction points, particularly those involving trade rules, export controls, taxation and intellectual property, could provide businesses with greater certainty and encourage additional investment. His comments come as India and the US continue to deepen their broader strategic partnership, which extends beyond trade and investment to areas including technology, defence, energy and supply-chain cooperation.
The economic relationship has become increasingly important as companies in both countries look to diversify manufacturing and strengthen access to major global markets. Gor said the partnership had "unbelievable and incredible potential" and urged both sides to focus on creating conditions in which businesses can grow. "To unleash the full power of the economic engine, we must address friction points together as true partners. We need predictable taxation and regulatory frameworks that allow business to thrive," he said. The remarks underline the importance of policy stability as India and the US seek to expand bilateral investment and commercial ties. For businesses, greater predictability in regulations, stronger intellectual property protections and clearer engagement on export controls could help reduce uncertainty and support longer-term investment decisions.
