Ajit Pawar’s Final X Post: Salutations to Lala Lajpat Rai on Birth Anniversary
Ajit Pawar paid tribute to Lala Lajpat Rai in his last X post, one hour before the Learjet crash.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar tragically lost his life in a plane crash near Baramati on Wednesday morning, along with five others onboard. Just an hour before the fatal incident, Pawar shared his final message on X (formerly Twitter), paying tribute to freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai.
In his post, Pawar wrote, “On the occasion of his birth anniversary, humble salutations to the great freedom fighter, proclaimer of Swarajya, and ‘Punjab Kesari’ Lala Lajpat Rai ji, who dedicated his all for the nation’s independence! His patriotism will forever continue to inspire us.” Lala Lajpat Rai had died in 1928 from severe injuries sustained during a baton charge by British police in Lahore while leading a peaceful protest against the Simon Commission.
The tragic crash occurred at 8:48 AM as the Learjet 45, VT-SSK, carrying Pawar from Mumbai to Baramati, attempted to land at Baramati airport. All onboard—including Pawar, two personnel, and two crew members—perished. Emergency services and local authorities responded immediately to the site, which was engulfed in fire and smoke.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi described the loss as “very shocking, painful and heart-rending,” recalling Pawar’s commitment to his work and the people of Maharashtra. “There have been differences between us, but we have worked together. He was a really committed man who kept to his work. I express my sympathies to Pawar Sahab, Supriya Ji, Sunetra Ji, Parth and Jay. Going away like this is very painful,” she said.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing. The DGCA and accident authorities will examine the black box, cockpit voice recorder, pre-flight maintenance records, air traffic control communications, weather conditions, and terrain factors to determine the cause. Preliminary reports suggest dense fog and the hilly terrain in the Baramati region may have contributed to the aircraft losing its course during the emergency landing attempt.
Ajit Pawar’s final social media post now stands as a poignant reminder of his lifelong commitment to public service and the nation’s ideals, even in his last hours. Leaders and citizens alike continue to mourn the loss of one of Maharashtra’s most prominent political figures.
