Air Canada Suspends Toronto–Dubai Operations Till May, Adds Capacity To Delhi For Travellers

Air Canada suspends Toronto–Dubai flights until May due to Middle East unrest; travellers can use Delhi flights instead.

Air Canada has announced the suspension of all Toronto–Dubai flights until at least May 1 due to escalating unrest in the Middle East. The airline said it will gradually resume services once safe passage is ensured and is increasing capacity on its Delhi routes to provide travellers with alternatives for flights to Canada.

In an official post on X, Air Canada stated, “Due to unrest in the Middle East, our Toronto-Dubai flights are cancelled until at least May 1. We plan to reintroduce service gradually when flights can safely resume. We continue to add capacity to Delhi to provide travellers with options to Canada.”

Meanwhile, Air India and Air India Express are continuing operations in West Asia, running a total of 80 scheduled and non-scheduled flights to and from the region on March 14. Both carriers are maintaining regular services to Jeddah and Muscat, with Air India operating 10 flights to and from Jeddah and Air India Express running eight scheduled flights to and from Muscat.

In addition, Air India will operate one round-trip from Delhi and two from Mumbai to Jeddah. Air India Express is scheduled to operate flights from Kozhikode and Mangaluru to Jeddah and back, along with regular flights to Muscat from Delhi, Kochi, Kozhikode, and Mumbai. A further 62 non-scheduled flights to the UAE and Saudi Arabia are also planned, subject to regulatory approvals and slot availability.

These measures are part of ongoing efforts to assist Indian nationals in the region. The Indian Embassy in Doha previously reported that nearly 500 Indians travelled from Qatar to India and other global destinations on Qatar Airways flights. The embassy also confirmed the humanitarian transport of the mortal remains of two Indian nationals, along with accompanying family members, to Kochi.

Authorities and airlines have emphasised that all operations are being conducted with the necessary permissions from Indian and local regulatory bodies, ensuring the safe movement of passengers amid the current geopolitical situation.
