AIMTC Demands Diesel Price Cut From Centre Amid Falling Crude Rates

Transport body urges government to reduce diesel prices.

The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has reiterated its appeal to the central government to reduce diesel prices in line with declining global crude oil rates, arguing that such a move would provide immediate relief to the transport sector and help ease broader economic pressures.

All India Motor Transport Congress said the road transport industry, which it described as the backbone of India’s economy, plays a critical role in ensuring the uninterrupted movement of essential goods across the country. The body urged the government to pass on the benefit of lower crude oil prices directly to consumers and transport operators.

In its statement, the organisation argued that reducing diesel prices would have a cascading positive impact on the economy. It said lower fuel costs would help reduce logistics expenses, ease inflationary pressure, and support overall economic growth by stabilising the supply chain and lowering the cost of essential commodities.

The transport body emphasised that diesel remains the most significant operational expense for commercial vehicles, accounting for a major share of total running costs. It warned that sustained high fuel prices continue to strain truck operators, fleet owners, and drivers, many of whom are already under financial pressure.

AIMTC added that recent global trends in crude oil markets present an opportunity for price rationalisation. It noted that international oil benchmarks have seen a notable decline in recent weeks, creating what it described as a favourable environment for passing on benefits to domestic consumers.

The appeal comes amid ongoing debate over fuel pricing policy in India, with transport associations and industry stakeholders frequently calling for greater alignment between domestic fuel rates and international crude movements.
