Ahmedabad Achieves 65% HPV Vaccine Coverage Among Adolescent Girls
Ahmedabad HPV vaccination drive reaches 65% adolescent coverage achieved.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has reported significant progress in its citywide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign, with more than 31,000 adolescent girls receiving free doses under a special drive aimed at preventing cervical cancer. The initiative has achieved around 65% coverage of its identified target group so far.
According to civic health department data released on May 12, a total of 31,579 vaccine doses have been administered to eligible girls aged 14 to 15 years. The campaign, which began as a focused immunisation effort across Ahmedabad, is being conducted through Urban Health Centres and AMC-run hospitals and will continue until May 31.
Officials said the drive is part of a broader public health strategy to increase awareness among adolescents and strengthen preventive healthcare measures against cervical cancer. The AMC has identified 48,443 eligible girls across the city for vaccination under the programme, which is being carried out as a time-bound mega campaign.

The civic body highlighted that the HPV vaccine, which is widely regarded as an effective preventive tool against cervical cancer, is being provided free of cost under the initiative. Officials also noted that in private healthcare facilities, the same vaccine typically costs around ₹3,000, excluding consultation charges, making the public drive a significant financial relief for beneficiaries.
Health authorities reiterated that the campaign is specifically targeted at adolescent girls in the 14–15 age group, with vaccination services made available at designated civic health centres. They added that the programme is designed to maximise coverage within the stipulated timeframe and ensure early protection against serious and potentially life-threatening diseases.
AMC officials said the ongoing drive reflects the city’s commitment to strengthening preventive healthcare infrastructure and improving immunisation uptake among young populations. The campaign is expected to continue efforts to reach remaining eligible beneficiaries before its scheduled conclusion at the end of the month.
