Adani Cleared to Build ₹136-Crore Luxury Hotel Inside Thiruvananthapuram Airport Premises

Adani receives an environmental nod to build a ₹136-crore luxury hotel inside the Thiruvananthapuram airport premises.

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has granted environmental clearance to Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. for the construction of a Rs 136-crore luxury five-star hotel within the premises of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. The approval, confirmed on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, follows a detailed appraisal by the ministry’s Expert Appraisal Committee (Infra-2) in its August meeting. The 240-room facility, spread across a built-up area of nearly 34,000 sq m on land currently used as open parking, will include extensive food-and-beverage outlets with seating for 660 guests and is expected to be completed in approximately three years.

The five-story hotel, with a height of 23 meters and two basement parking levels, will feature sustainable design elements, including an on-site sewage treatment plant that will recycle roughly half of its daily water requirement, organic waste converters, and energy-efficient systems projected to reduce consumption by up to 20 percent. Around 40 existing trees on the 8,000-sq-m plot will be transplanted elsewhere within the airport boundary, with additional green-belt development planned. Officials confirmed the site lies outside any eco-sensitive zone and carries no pending litigation, allowing central-level clearance while Kerala’s State Environment Impact Assessment Authority remains non-functional.

The project forms a key component of the Adani Group’s “City Side Development” initiative for Thiruvananthapuram airport, which the group has operated since January 2021 under a long-term concession from the Airports Authority of India. Beyond serving air passengers, the hotel is strategically positioned to cater to international crew arriving at the nearby Vizhinjam International Seaport—also operated by an Adani entity—especially after the Union government recently sanctioned an immigration counter there to facilitate crew changes on large cargo vessels.

Once operational, the luxury property is projected to create approximately 300 direct jobs and nearly 900 indirect employment opportunities, providing a significant boost to Kerala’s tourism and hospitality sectors. The clearance marks another milestone in the rapid transformation of Thiruvananthapuram’s aviation and maritime infrastructure under private management, aligning with broader efforts to position the state capital as a premium gateway for both leisure and business travellers in southern India.
