ACB Raid at Nellore Toll Plaza Uncovers ₹2.38 Lakh In Unaccounted Cash

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) seized ₹2.38 lakh in unaccounted cash during a surprise inspection at the Musunuru toll plaza near Kavali in Nellore district. The inspection was carried out at the Transport Department facility after officials received information about alleged irregularities involving money collected from motorists. The seized cash included ₹68,000 found lying by the roadside and ₹1.70 lakh recovered from the boot of a car.

The ₹1.70 lakh was found in a vehicle belonging to Motor Vehicle Inspector Banavath Gopi Naik of the Nellore district enforcement wing, according to the ACB. Officers conducted searches at the toll plaza and surrounding areas as part of the inspection. The recovery of cash from different locations led officials to examine how the money had been collected and whether it was connected to activities at the toll plaza.

According to the ACB, the inspection was linked to allegations that money was being collected from drivers without proper accounting. The Bureau said the Motor Vehicle Inspector was allegedly involved in collecting money with the assistance of two home guards and a private driver. The cash recovered during the operation is being examined as part of the inquiry into the alleged collection and handling of the funds.

The surprise inspection also involved questioning Transport Department personnel working at the Musunuru toll plaza. ACB officials examined records and questioned staff members to establish whether the unaccounted cash was connected to official duties or had been collected separately from motorists. The operation was carried out as part of the Bureau’s efforts to detect alleged corruption and financial irregularities within government departments.

The recovery of ₹68,000 from the roadside was another key finding during the inspection. Investigators are expected to determine who placed the money there and whether it was connected to the alleged collection from drivers. The cash found in the vehicle and the amount recovered near the road together accounted for ₹2.38 lakh, which the ACB described as unaccounted money.

The ACB’s findings are expected to form part of further proceedings against those allegedly involved in the collection of money. Officials will continue examining the seized cash, records and statements of personnel associated with the toll plaza. The investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the cash recoveries and establish responsibility for any alleged financial irregularities.
