ABVP Protests Muhammad Ali Jinnah Chapter in Jammu University Syllabus

ABVP protested at Jammu University demanding removal of a Jinnah chapter from the NEP syllabus.

Protests erupted at the University of Jammu after a chapter on Muhammad Ali Jinnah was included in the revised postgraduate political science syllabus. Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged demonstrations on campus, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the content.

Led by ABVP Jammu and Kashmir Secretary Sannak Shrivats, protesters gathered within the university premises, raising slogans against the administration. The chapter has been introduced under the “Modern Indian political thought” module as part of a paper titled “Minorities and the Nation", aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 framework.

The university administration defended the inclusion, stating that the topic is part of academic curricula in several institutions across India and adheres to guidelines set by the University Grants Commission. Officials emphasised that the syllabus aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of political thought and historical perspectives.

However, protesting students opposed the move, tearing posters of Jinnah and warning of intensified agitation if the chapter is not removed. The development has sparked a broader debate over academic freedom, curriculum design, and the inclusion of controversial historical figures in higher education.
