4 Killed In Russian And Ukrainian Attacks After Deadly Mall Drone Strike

Four killed as Russia-Ukraine attacks continue after mall strike.

Russian and Ukrainian attacks killed at least four people on Saturday, a day after a Russian drone strike on a shopping centre in central Ukraine killed 16 people and injured 130 others. In the latest attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said one person was killed and another wounded when ballistic missiles struck railway infrastructure in Kyiv. Russia's Defence Ministry reported that its forces had hit a locomotive depot in the Ukrainian capital.

Russian drone strikes also killed one person overnight in a village in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to local officials. Zelenskyy said three people were wounded when a minibus came under attack in the regional capital, which is also named Zaporizhzhia. The latest strikes come as Russian forces have intensified missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, particularly Kyiv, amid continued pressure on Ukraine's air defence capabilities.

In Russia's southern Krasnodar region, authorities reported that two children were killed and two adults wounded in a Ukrainian drone attack. The incidents underline the continuing expansion of long-range strikes on both sides as the war enters another period of intense aerial attacks. Ukrainian forces have increasingly targeted sites inside Russia, including energy and industrial facilities, while Russian forces continue missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

The latest violence followed a deadly Russian drone attack on a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih on Friday. Dnipropetrovsk regional head Oleksandr Hanzha said the death toll had risen to 16 by early Saturday, with nine people still missing and another 130 injured. Zelenskyy described the incident as a double-tap attack, alleging that a second wave of drones struck as emergency workers were responding to the initial strikes. The resulting fire covered an area of about 9,000 square metres before being brought under control.

Kryvyi Rih, Zelenskyy's hometown, has been repeatedly targeted during the war, including a major attack in April 2025 that killed 20 people, among them nine children. Kyiv has also faced repeated large-scale attacks in recent weeks, with at least 54 civilians killed and 202 wounded in the capital during July, according to the United Nations. The latest strikes came only a day after another major Russian missile and drone assault on Kyiv killed 16 people.

Ukraine has also continued carrying out long-range drone attacks against targets inside Russia, including oil and industrial facilities. The attacks have contributed to fuel shortages in some parts of Russia and included strikes on facilities linked to major retailers. Russian online outlet Astra reported that a Ukrainian drone set an oil refinery in the Samara region on fire, while local officials reported damage at an unidentified industrial facility and a logistics centre operated by Ozon.
