35,000 Delhi Police Personnel To Wear Bodycams Ahead Of CJP Protest
Delhi strengthens protest security through a large-scale police deployment and bodycam monitoring.
Delhi Police has deployed more than 35,000 police and paramilitary personnel across the national capital ahead of a planned protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on October 10. The demonstration centres on demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations surrounding the revision of electoral rolls. Authorities have strengthened security arrangements, introduced surveillance measures and increased monitoring at sensitive locations to prevent disruptions and maintain public order. The large-scale deployment comes despite the police denying permission for the proposed demonstration.
A key feature of the security plan is the deployment of body-worn cameras on police personnel assigned to protest duty. The devices are intended to record interactions between officers and members of the public, providing footage that could help establish what happened during confrontations or disputes. Police personnel have said the cameras can operate in low-light conditions, allowing them to record incidents even after dark. The move comes amid allegations of excessive force during previous demonstrations and growing demands for greater accountability during crowd-control operations.
Security arrangements also include CCTV surveillance, drones and facial recognition systems at selected locations. Authorities have established barricades and identified detention centres to manage possible detentions if protesters attempt to gather despite the denial of permission. Security has been tightened around Jantar Mantar, the Election Commission's office and other sensitive areas, while police personnel have been instructed to exercise restraint and handle the situation professionally. Officials are also monitoring movement at Delhi's borders to prevent unauthorised gatherings.

The proposed protest follows growing opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, an exercise that has triggered controversy over the removal of names from voter lists. Opposition parties and activists have raised concerns about the potential impact of the deletions, while the Election Commission and the ruling BJP have rejected allegations of electoral manipulation. The CJP, which emerged from an online satirical movement before developing a broader youth following, has made the issue a central part of its campaign and is demanding Kumar's resignation.
The security measures are expected to affect transport and daily activities in several parts of the capital. Delhi Metro services have introduced entry and exit restrictions at selected stations, while railway services and road traffic are also facing disruptions linked to the arrangements. Traffic police have advised commuters to check official updates, allow additional travel time and avoid affected routes wherever possible. Authorities have also increased public announcements and monitoring around sensitive locations to discourage unauthorised gatherings.
The extensive preparations reflect the administration's concerns about maintaining order during a politically sensitive demonstration. The denial of permission has not stopped organisers from expressing their intention to mobilise supporters, while police have warned that violations of applicable restrictions could invite legal action. With body cameras forming part of the deployment, the handling of interactions between officers and protesters is likely to attract close attention. The immediate challenge for authorities is to enforce security restrictions while ensuring that police operations remain proportionate and that essential movement across the city continues.
