18th BRICS Summit To Be Held At Bharat Mandapam On September 12-13

India will host the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, bringing together leaders of BRICS member nations, partner countries and outreach invitees. The two-day summit will focus on strengthening cooperation within the grouping and exchanging views on major global and regional issues of common interest.

India's BRICS Chairship for 2026 is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a people-centric approach based on the principle of “Humanity First”, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. Leaders are expected to discuss common priorities and explore ways to deepen cooperation across areas of mutual importance.

Under India's Chairship, more than 350 meetings and high-level engagements have been conducted in over 25 cities across the country. These initiatives have focused on strengthening the BRICS strategic partnership through its three broad pillars — political and security cooperation, economic and financial engagement, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

The MEA noted that India assumed its fourth BRICS Chairship on January 1, 2026, having previously chaired the grouping in 2012, 2016 and 2021. The year also marks 20 years since BRICS was established. India has used its Chairship to promote practical and development-oriented cooperation through government-level meetings as well as business and people-to-people initiatives.

BRICS cooperation has expanded to cover a wide range of international issues, including counter-terrorism, climate change, food and energy security, trade and agriculture. The grouping also works on matters involving the international financial system, telecommunications, labour and employment, the World Trade Organisation and efforts to strengthen the international financial architecture.

The BRICS grouping currently includes Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Its partner countries include Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. India's summit will provide an opportunity for participating countries to review ongoing cooperation and discuss priorities for the next phase of the grouping's development.
