13 Wedding Guests Killed in Three-Truck Collision In Indonesia's Java
Pickup truck crushed between two trucks kills 13 wedding guests.
At least 13 people were killed and five others injured after a pickup truck carrying wedding guests was crushed between two trucks on a highway in Indonesia's West Java province on Sunday afternoon. The victims were returning home from a wedding in neighbouring Parean village when the accident occurred on the busy northern coastal highway near Kiajaran Kulon village in Indramayu Regency. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
According to local traffic police chief Undang Syarif Hidayat, the open-bed pickup truck slowed down and came to a stop near a median opening as the driver prepared to make a U-turn. A wing-box truck travelling in the same direction crashed into the rear of the pickup, causing the vehicle to be pushed into the opposite carriageway. Moments later, it was struck by another truck approaching from the opposite direction.
The force of the impact caused severe damage to the pickup truck and threw more than a dozen passengers onto the highway. Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene to assist the victims before the injured were transported to nearby hospitals. Police confirmed that 13 people died in the accident, while five survivors sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Authorities said the passengers in the pickup truck were part of a group returning from a wedding celebration in Parean village. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the use of open-bed pickup trucks to transport passengers, a practice that remains common in several parts of Indonesia despite the safety risks associated with such vehicles.
Police have begun examining the circumstances that led to the crash, including the actions of the drivers involved and road conditions at the time of the incident. Investigators are expected to determine whether speeding, driver error or other factors contributed to the collision. Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims pending notification of their families.
Road accidents remain a significant safety concern in Indonesia, where heavy traffic, mixed vehicle use and risky driving practices often contribute to fatal crashes. Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations, while the latest tragedy has prompted renewed calls for stricter enforcement of passenger transport safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
