#BreakingNews: Terrorist Attack Jammu And Kashmir Police Officer

A police officer was killed in a suspected terrorist attack in Anantnag town on Wednesday after an assailant opened fire at a police party deployed for Amarnath Yatra security duty. CCTV footage of the incident showed the attacker approaching the security personnel in a crowded market area and firing at 35-year-old head constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi from close range.

The attack took place around 12:30 pm at Lal Chowk in Anantnag, according to officials. The footage showed the suspected terrorist targeting the police personnel in broad daylight before fleeing from the area. Qureshi was immediately taken to the Government Medical College hospital in Anantnag, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Officials said the attack marks the first major terror incident in the Kashmir Valley since last year’s Pahalgam attack. The incident occurred amid heightened security arrangements in Anantnag and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir due to the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, during which security forces have been deployed extensively to protect pilgrims and maintain law and order.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a group described by security agencies as a shadow outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to identify and track those involved in the shooting. Some individuals have also been detained for questioning as part of the investigation.

Eyewitnesses said the attacker was carrying an assault rifle and fired in the busy market area. Officials said two bullets also struck a nearby shop during the attack, though further details about possible civilian injuries were not immediately available.

Security forces have increased their presence in Anantnag town following the incident and are carrying out searches in the surrounding areas. The Amarnath Yatra has remained suspended for the past four days due to adverse weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, while authorities continue to monitor the security situation across the region.
