DMK Will Win Because We Kept Our Promises, Says Udhayanidhi Stalin in Kancheepuram

DMK launches Kancheepuram campaign banking on welfare delivery and women voters for re-election.

Udhayanidhi Stalin formally launched the election campaign of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam from Kancheepuram, expressing confidence that the party’s governance record would help it secure a second consecutive term in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Addressing the media during his visit, the Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the party’s achievements and emphasized that the electoral contest, though multi-cornered, would ultimately favour the ruling alliance due to its performance in office.

The campaign began with Udhayanidhi paying tribute at the memorial of C. N. Annadurai, the founder of the DMK, symbolically reinforcing the party’s ideological roots. In an interaction with reporters, he underscored that the party’s biggest strength lies in fulfilling its promises to the public. He credited Chief Minister M. K. Stalin for delivering on commitments made during the previous election and expressed confidence that voters would continue to trust the party’s assurances.

Focusing on key voter segments, Udhayanidhi highlighted welfare initiatives aimed at women and students, positioning them as central pillars of the DMK’s campaign strategy. He pointed to schemes designed to support education, financial stability, and social welfare, arguing that these measures have had a tangible impact on people’s lives. According to him, these targeted efforts would play a decisive role in shaping voter sentiment in favour of the ruling party.

Responding to criticism over the expansion of the DMK-led alliance, Udhayanidhi dismissed suggestions that it indicated political vulnerability. Instead, he framed it as a sign of growing confidence and acceptance of the party’s governance model. He asserted that new allies joining the alliance reflected trust in the DMK’s leadership and policies, adding that even opposition supporters were increasingly aligning with the party’s vision.

On the evolving political landscape, Udhayanidhi addressed the emergence of Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, as a potential challenger. While avoiding direct confrontation, he reframed the electoral battle as a broader ideological contest. He described the primary fight as one between Tamil Nadu’s interests and the central leadership, implicitly targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party and its alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

With the elections expected to witness a five-cornered contest, the DMK appears to be banking on its governance record, welfare schemes, and expanding alliance network to retain power. Udhayanidhi’s campaign launch in Kancheepuram signals the party’s intent to consolidate support across key demographics, particularly women voters, while positioning itself as a stable and reliable choice amid a competitive political environment.
