PM Modi Begins Five-Nation Diplomatic Tour Amid West Asia Tensions; UAE Visit Focuses on Energy Security

PM Modi begins a five-nation tour, starting in the UAE, focusing on energy security and European trade partnerships.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a five-nation diplomatic tour on Friday, with stops in the United Arab Emirates and four European countries, at a time when tensions in West Asia remain elevated due to the ongoing Iran-related conflict. The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit is aimed at strengthening India’s strategic, energy, and economic partnerships with key global partners, while also advancing ongoing trade negotiations with European blocs.

The tour will begin with a brief visit to the United Arab Emirates, where Modi is expected to hold talks with President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Discussions are likely to focus on energy security, trade cooperation, and regional stability, particularly given India’s dependence on Gulf nations for crude oil and natural gas supplies. Officials said the engagement assumes added significance amid disruptions in West Asia and concerns over safe and stable energy flows.

Following the UAE visit, the Prime Minister will travel to the Netherlands for bilateral talks with Dutch leadership, including meetings with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. He is also scheduled to interact with business leaders and address the Indian community. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening trade, investment ties, and cooperation in emerging technologies as India continues to deepen engagement with European economies.

The next leg of the tour will take Modi to Sweden, where he will hold consultations with the Prime Minister of Sweden and participate in high-level discussions covering artificial intelligence, clean energy, defense cooperation, and supply chain resilience. He is also expected to attend the European Roundtable for Industry, where global business leaders and policymakers will discuss industrial collaboration. The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts to expand India’s partnerships with Nordic countries.

After Sweden, Modi will travel to Norway for his first-ever bilateral visit to the country, where he will also attend the third India-Nordic Summit. Talks are expected to focus on trade, innovation, climate technology, and collaboration in areas such as carbon capture, offshore wind energy, and Arctic research. The visit will also include interactions with Norwegian leadership and participation in a business and research summit aimed at strengthening India’s engagement with Nordic economies.

The final stop of the tour will be Italy, where Modi will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and meet senior Italian leadership. He is also scheduled to visit the headquarters of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome. The visit reflects the growing momentum in India–Italy relations, with both sides expected to explore deeper cooperation in trade, defense, and multilateral engagement during the concluding leg of the five-nation tour.
