Delhi HC Judge Likens Lawyer’s Speedy Arguments to Shankar Mahadevan’s ‘Breathless’

Advocate argues virtually from -23°C balcony in snowy Sonamarg

In a delightful courtroom moment, a Delhi High Court judge drew a playful comparison between an advocate’s rapid-fire submissions and Shankar Mahadevan’s legendary song Breathless during a virtual hearing this week. Advocate Shreya Smriti, appearing from a snow-laden balcony in Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir, impressed the bench with her swift and precise arguments despite the extreme cold hovering around minus 23 degrees Celsius.

Justice Saurabh Banerjee, presiding over the matter, couldn’t help but notice her impressive pace. He quipped, “Who was the singer who sang Breathless?” before praising her, saying, “She can qualify for that. One breath, she is doing very fast.” The judge added warmly, “You are very good, Ms Counsel,” acknowledging her dedication and skill under challenging conditions.

Shreya Smriti later shared a video clip of the light-hearted exchange on Instagram, captioning it: “Appearing virtually before the Delhi High Court from -23 degree C. Grateful for the kind appreciation by the Hon’ble Judge. For an advocate, professional responsibility remains the priority, wherever duty calls.” The post quickly went viral, drawing admiration from netizens who hailed her professionalism and resilience.
