CBI Intensifies Twisha Sharma Death Probe With Giribala Singh Custody
CBI gets Giribala Singh custody in Twisha Sharma death probe.
A district court in Bhopal on Friday granted the Central Bureau of Investigation five-day custody of former judge Giribala Singh in connection with the alleged dowry death case of Twisha Sharma. The court also extended by five days the custody of Samarth Singh, Twisha’s husband, who had already been arrested in the case.
According to reports, Giribala Singh’s counsel did not oppose the CBI’s plea seeking custodial interrogation. Her arrest came a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled her anticipatory bail, paving the way for the central agency to take her into custody as part of the ongoing investigation into Twisha Sharma’s death.
Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, had married Bhopal resident Samarth Singh in December 2025. She died on May 12 under circumstances that later prompted allegations from her family that she had been subjected to harassment and dowry-related abuse by her husband and in-laws. The case has since drawn significant public attention due to the involvement of a former judge and the seriousness of the allegations.

The accused have been booked under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including Section 80(2) relating to dowry death, Section 85 concerning cruelty by husband or relatives, and Section 3(5), which deals with acts committed with common intention. Additional charges have also been invoked under Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, which criminalise dowry demands and related offences.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court of India directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to take over the probe and conduct an expeditious investigation into the matter. The apex court also advised both the victim’s family and the accused persons to refrain from making public statements that could influence or interfere with the ongoing investigation.
The latest custodial orders are expected to allow investigators to further examine the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death, including allegations of sustained harassment, financial demands, and the role of individual family members. The case continues to be closely watched as the CBI proceeds with its inquiry into one of the most high-profile dowry death investigations in recent months.
