Assam Teacher Arrested After CCTV Exposes Assault on Students; Attempted Window Push Alleged
An Assam teacher was arrested after CCTV footage showed an assault on students, including an alleged attempt to push one from a window.
A primary school teacher in Assam’s Charaideo district has been arrested after CCTV footage allegedly showed him physically assaulting students inside a classroom and attempting to push one child towards a window. The incident, reported from Mathurapur Tea Garden Primary School, has triggered outrage among parents, local residents, and student organizations, raising serious concerns about student safety and corporal punishment in educational institutions. Authorities have launched both police and departmental investigations into the allegations.
The accused teacher, identified as Ariful Islam, was serving as an assistant teacher at the school when the alleged incidents took place during class hours. According to complaints and preliminary reports, several minor students were subjected to repeated physical punishment inside the classroom. In one particularly disturbing instance, the teacher was allegedly seen trying to force a student towards a classroom window, an act that intensified public anger after details of the footage emerged.
The matter came to light after the school’s head teacher reviewed CCTV recordings installed inside the classroom premises. The footage reportedly captured multiple instances of violence and misconduct involving students. Sources also alleged that some children were made to massage the teacher during class hours, further escalating concerns regarding abuse of authority and inappropriate behavior within the school environment. Police confirmed that a case was registered after receiving complaints regarding the alleged abuse and misconduct inside the school. The accused teacher was subsequently arrested, and investigators are currently examining CCTV footage and other evidence as part of the ongoing probe. Officials stated that statements from students, school authorities, and witnesses are also being recorded to establish the full sequence of events surrounding the alleged incidents.
The Assam Education Department is expected to initiate a separate departmental inquiry into the case alongside the police investigation. The incident has reignited discussions about corporal punishment and child protection measures in schools, particularly in rural and economically vulnerable regions. Parents and community members have called for stronger monitoring systems, stricter enforcement of child safety regulations, and greater accountability within educational institutions to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
