Russia Offers Mediation as US-Iran Nuclear Standoff Intensifies, Trump Claims Tehran Wants Deal
Russia offers mediation in US-Iran tensions; Trump claims Tehran seeks deal, Iran warns Washington.
Russia has offered to mediate in the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran as concerns continue to grow over the ongoing nuclear and military standoff in the Middle East. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said Moscow is prepared to assist in negotiations between Washington and Tehran if both sides seek its involvement. His remarks come amid rising hostilities following US-led military operations against Iran and increasing fears of a broader regional conflict.
In an interview with Russia’s state-run TASS news agency, Ryabkov stated that Moscow was willing to “extend a helping hand” to help resolve the dispute but stressed that Russia would not force itself into the process. He said both the United States and Iran were already aware of Russia’s position and readiness to support diplomatic efforts if requested. According to Ryabkov, Russia remains committed to facilitating dialogue aimed at reducing tensions and preventing further escalation in the region.
The latest developments come as relations between Washington and Tehran remain at a critical stage following US-led strikes on Iran that reportedly began in February. US President Donald Trump recently stated that Iran was eager to reach an agreement and claimed the conflict could end “very quickly.” Trump also attempted to calm concerns over global energy markets by saying oil supplies remained abundant and predicting that crude prices would decline in the near future despite the ongoing geopolitical instability.

Iran, however, has continued to issue warnings against further military action by the United States and its allies. According to reports, Iranian military officials described Washington’s rhetoric as provocative and unacceptable. The commander of Iran’s central military headquarters reportedly warned that any additional “strategic mistake” or miscalculation by the United States and allied countries could trigger a stronger response from Tehran. The comments reflect the increasingly hostile tone emerging from both sides as diplomatic efforts remain uncertain.
The situation has also drawn attention to Russia’s strategic relationship with Iran amid allegations regarding intelligence cooperation between the two countries. Reports citing security analyst Pavel Luzin claimed that Iran has been receiving intelligence support through Russia’s “Liana” satellite surveillance system, which is reportedly capable of tracking American aircraft carrier strike groups and naval assets. The claims have further intensified concerns about the growing involvement of major global powers in the Middle East conflict and the potential expansion of military coordination in the region.
Analysts believe Russia’s mediation offer reflects Moscow’s broader geopolitical interest in maintaining influence in West Asia while positioning itself as a key diplomatic actor in international crises. The continuing confrontation between the United States and Iran has already raised concerns over regional security, global oil markets, and the possibility of wider military escalation. As diplomatic channels remain fragile, global attention is now focused on whether international mediation efforts can prevent the conflict from deepening further in the coming weeks.
