Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of Nepal’s Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), in New Delhi and reiterated India’s commitment to its “Neighbourhood First” policy. The meeting highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen India-Nepal relations and deepen political engagement between the two neighbouring countries.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that India values its close and multifaceted partnership with Nepal and looks forward to working with its political leadership to further enhance bilateral cooperation. He also noted a shared vision for a stable and prosperous future between the two nations, underscoring the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement at multiple levels.
The meeting was attended by senior Indian officials, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Their presence reflected the strategic importance attached to India-Nepal relations and the broader framework of regional cooperation in South Asia.

According to official sources, Modi welcomed Lamichhane’s intent to strengthen ties with India and reiterated India’s support for expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest. The interaction comes at a time when both countries continue to focus on development partnerships, infrastructure connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges as key pillars of their diplomatic relationship.
In parallel engagements, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also met a delegation led by Lamichhane earlier, extending congratulations on his party’s electoral performance in Nepal. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held separate discussions with Lamichhane, where both sides focused on enhancing development cooperation and strengthening cultural and societal linkages between the two countries.
Following the meetings, Jaishankar described the discussions as positive and constructive, noting that they centered on expanding the India-Nepal development partnership. Lamichhane also stated that the talks were productive and aimed at reinforcing bilateral cooperation. The Ministry of External Affairs said such interactions reflect the ongoing tradition of regular and multi-layered diplomatic and political exchanges between India and Nepal.
