DMK Leader Predicts Vijay's TVK Government Won't Survive Beyond Four Months

Anitha Radhakrishnan claims Vijay's TVK government will collapse within four to six months.

Senior DMK Leader Anitha Radhakrishnan launched a sharp political attack on the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government on Sunday, claiming the administration led by Chief Minister Joseph Vijay would not survive beyond six months. Speaking at a party event in southern Tamil Nadu, the DMK leader predicted that former chief minister M K Stalin would soon return to power amid what he described as growing instability within the ruling coalition.

Radhakrishnan, who represents the Tiruchendur constituency, directly targeted TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna during his speech and challenged him to resign as MLA from Villivakkam and contest against him in Tiruchendur. The veteran DMK leader declared that the ruling coalition would collapse within “four to six months” and insisted the opposition was prepared to reclaim political ground in the state. His remarks reflected the increasingly aggressive tone adopted by the DMK following its defeat in the recent Assembly elections.

The Tiruchendur MLA also defended Stalin’s political legacy after the DMK chief lost the Kolathur seat in the Assembly election to former party member VS Babu, who later joined the TVK. Praising Stalin’s development work in the constituency, Radhakrishnan claimed the former chief minister had transformed Kolathur significantly during his tenure. He also expressed hope that Stalin would contest from Tiruchirappalli in future elections as the DMK prepares for a political comeback.

The comments come amid a rapidly intensifying political rivalry between the DMK and the TVK-led coalition government. Vijay’s rise to power earlier this year marked one of the most dramatic electoral shifts in Tamil Nadu politics in decades. The TVK secured 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, ending over six decades of alternating power between the DMK and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Although the TVK initially fell short of a majority by 10 seats, the party later secured support from the Congress, left parties, and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, all of which were previously aligned with the DMK alliance. Vijay was subsequently sworn in as chief minister and comfortably won a trust vote in the Assembly with support from 144 legislators. The political developments also triggered speculation about internal divisions within the AIADMK after some of its MLAs reportedly voted in favor of the new government.

Since assuming office, Vijay and his administration have faced repeated criticism from the DMK over governance, appointments, and administrative decisions. Opposition leaders have continued to question the stability of the coalition government, while the ruling TVK has consistently dismissed suggestions of internal instability. Neither Vijay’s office nor senior TVK leaders, including Aadhav Arjuna, had publicly responded to Radhakrishnan’s remarks at the time of publication.
