RSP Chief Rabi Lamichhane Holds Talks With BJP President In Delhi

RSP chief meets BJP president to discuss governance and party cooperation.

Nepal’s ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane on Tuesday visited the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in New Delhi, where he met BJP President Nitin Nabin as part of efforts to strengthen party-to-party engagement between the two political organisations.

Lamichhane was warmly received at the BJP headquarters, with members of the Nepalese community also gathering at the venue to welcome the visiting delegation. The meeting focused on expanding political cooperation and exchanging perspectives on organisational functioning, democratic practices, governance models, and public outreach strategies, according to party sources.

The visit is being viewed as a platform for enhancing dialogue between the two parties and sharing experiences on political organisation and citizen-centric governance. Both sides reportedly discussed ways to improve internal party structures and broaden democratic participation mechanisms, reflecting a growing trend of international party-level exchanges.

According to officials familiar with the engagement, the BJP expressed optimism that such interactions would help deepen mutual understanding and strengthen political relations beyond formal diplomatic channels. The meeting also highlighted the increasing importance being placed on party-to-party diplomacy in addition to traditional state-to-state ties.

Sources indicated that Lamichhane may hold further discussions during his stay in New Delhi with senior Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, although official confirmation of these meetings has not yet been released.

The visit comes amid wider regional political engagement efforts and ongoing diplomatic attention on Nepal’s internal political developments, including speculation surrounding future high-level visits. BJP leaders have in recent years expanded outreach programmes such as the “Know BJP” initiative to familiarise foreign diplomats and political delegations with the party’s ideology, organisational structure, and governance approach.
