West Bengal Polls: Chaturvedi Predicts Mamata Banerjee to Retain CM Post
Chaturvedi says strong public support ensures Mamata Banerjee’s victory despite BJP’s aggressive campaigning.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Tuesday expressed confidence that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will retain power in the upcoming Assembly elections, predicting her fourth term in office. Chaturvedi asserted that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) continues to enjoy strong public support despite the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) aggressive campaigning.
Speaking to IANS, Chaturvedi said, “The way the atmosphere is in West Bengal, and the strong connection the people seem to have with Mamata Banerjee, it is clear that no matter how much the BJP tries, with election campaigns, divisive tactics, or the infiltrator narrative, they are not able to reach the people. Therefore, Mamata Banerjee will win again and become Chief Minister for the fourth time.”
The remarks come as political activity intensifies in the state, with parties sharpening their strategies ahead of the Assembly polls. The BJP has been raising issues such as alleged infiltration, governance, and law and order, while the TMC continues to focus on welfare schemes and promoting regional identity.

Meanwhile, the Congress has also signalled its intent to make a comeback in the state. Party leader Surendra Rajput alleged irregularities in the electoral process, claiming that the BJP, in collusion with the Election Commission, has manipulated the SIR process. He added, “The people of Bengal are very strong and very intelligent… There will be a change, a new dawn will emerge, and a Congress government will come to power.”
The statements underline the sharp political contest shaping up in West Bengal, with multiple parties vying to consolidate their support bases ahead of the polls. While the BJP is positioning itself as the principal challenger to the TMC, the Congress is attempting to regain lost ground in the state. West Bengal is set to witness an intense electoral battle, with Assembly elections scheduled in two phases on April 23 and April 29, 2026. Counting of votes will take place on May 4, when the results will be officially declared.
