Wedding Heist in Aligarh: Mom Runs Off with Daughter’s Fiancé and Loot
In a jaw-dropping twist, a middle-aged woman from Aligarh district has bolted with her daughter’s fiancé just seven days before the scheduled wedding, triggering a police manhunt.
The runaway pair, Apna Devi, nearly 40, and Sushant (name changed), also made off with Rs 3 lakh in cash and jewellery worth over Rs 5 lakh—savings earmarked for the April 16 ceremony.
Jitendra Kumar, the devastated father of the bride-to-be, told reporters his wife’s long phone chats with Sushant raised no red flags until now. “She’s ruined us,” he lamented, reeling from the betrayal in their village under Madraak police station limits.
Sushant, from a nearby village, vanished Sunday morning, cryptically telling his father he was “embarking on a long journey” and not to be contacted. When his worried father checked with Kumar’s family, Apna Devi was gone too.
Suspicion turned to shock as the dots connected. Sushant’s father filed a missing person report, prompting police action. Station House Officer Arvind Kumar confirmed, “We’re searching for the couple after a complaint was lodged. Further steps will follow once they’re traced.”
The incident has stunned both families, with the bride-to-be’s clan grappling with financial loss and humiliation.
As Aligarh police scour the region, the elopement saga blends soap-opera drama with a heist, leaving a wedding in tatters and a community buzzing. Will love—or loot—keep the fugitives ahead of the law? For now, the hunt is on.
