A bizarre and disturbing incident at a Telangana government college hostel has left students and social media users stunned. A video, which has since gone viral, shows a watchman in deep sleep on a kitchen slab with one leg resting inside a large vessel of cooked rice prepared for hostel students.
The incident occurred at the Government Polytechnic College hostel in Sangareddy district on Wednesday night. When students arrived for dinner, they were shocked to find the man — later identified as a temporary watchman — asleep in the kitchen. In the now-viral 28-second clip, the man appears visibly intoxicated, shifting slightly in his sleep before removing his leg from the rice pot.
According to reports, the startled students immediately informed the hostel’s food contractor and staff about the unsanitary situation. The incident quickly drew public attention after the video surfaced online, raising serious questions about hygiene, supervision, and food safety in student hostels.

District authorities soon intervened following the viral outrage. Sangareddy District Collector and Magistrate, P. Pravinya, took immediate action by ordering the man’s removal from his duties. An internal inquiry has reportedly been initiated to ensure such lapses do not occur again.
Students have urged the college administration to tighten oversight of hostel facilities, emphasizing that health and safety measures should not be compromised. The episode has also revived a broader discussion about the living conditions in government-run educational hostels across the state.
