Vijay’s TVK To Contest Tamil Nadu Elections Alone, No Alliance With NDA

Actor-politician rejects alliance talks, positioning TVK for independent contest in multi-cornered Tamil Nadu elections.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay has ruled out any alliance with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), announcing that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), will contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections independently. The decision is expected to significantly reshape the state’s political dynamics, setting the stage for a multi-cornered contest.

Addressing a बैठक of party leaders in Pattinapakkam, Vijay made it clear that TVK has not engaged in alliance talks with any political formation. Urging party workers to intensify grassroots efforts, he expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, stating that candidate lists would be announced soon and that he would undertake a statewide campaign ahead of the polls.

The announcement comes amid recent speculation that TVK was in advanced discussions with the NDA, particularly with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to forge an alliance. Political observers suggest that such a tie-up could have turned the election into a triangular contest. However, differences over leadership roles and ideological positioning appear to have stalled negotiations.

According to sources, the BJP had reportedly offered TVK around 60 Assembly seats along with the Deputy Chief Minister’s post. In response, TVK is believed to have sought a rotational power-sharing arrangement, with Vijay serving as Chief Minister for the first half of the term. This proposal was reportedly rejected by leaders of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), including senior leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

With TVK choosing to go solo, the electoral contest is now expected to feature four प्रमुख fronts: the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance, the AIADMK-BJP combine, Vijay’s TVK, and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), led by Seeman, which is also contesting independently.

Meanwhile, TVK has begun finalising its candidates, with selections reportedly completed for around 60 constituencies. Vijay himself is likely to contest from Perambur, while other potential candidates include Aadhav Arjuna from Villivakkam and Anand from T Nagar. As the party prepares to release its full candidate list and manifesto, it is gearing up for an aggressive statewide campaign in what will be its first major electoral test.
