VietJet Passenger Claims Crew Refused Water for Mother's Medication

A video from a VietJet Air flight has sparked an online debate after passenger Yadupriyam Mehta alleged that a cabin crew member refused to provide drinking water needed for an elderly mother to take prescribed medication. The route, flight number and exact date of the incident were not specified.
According to Mehta’s account, a request was made for a small cup of water shortly after takeoff so the medication could be taken. Mehta claimed the crew member declined to provide complimentary water and instead said that bottled water had to be purchased from the airline’s inflight menu.
Mehta said the family did not have the required cash or local currency and attempted to explain the urgency of the medical need. The disagreement reportedly escalated, with Mehta accusing the crew of behaving disrespectfully and making offensive remarks. A video of the exchange was subsequently posted on social media.

In the accompanying post, Mehta described the experience as extremely disappointing and argued that a straightforward request should have been handled with courtesy. The passenger said every traveller deserved respectful and professional treatment, particularly when seeking assistance connected to an elderly person’s medication.
Online reactions were divided. Some users argued that commercial airlines should provide basic drinking water when it is required for medical reasons. Others defended the crew, saying passengers travelling on low-cost carriers should carry an empty bottle through security, refill it at the airport or purchase water onboard.
Several commenters also criticised the tone used during the confrontation while acknowledging that the situation might have been handled more sensitively. The account represents the passenger’s version of events, and the material provided did not include a response from VietJet Air or an independent verification of the circumstances shown in the video.
