Varanasi Teacher Killed in Brutal Parking Dispute

Teacher Slain Over Parking Spot

A 48-year-old teacher, Praveen Jha, from Sunbeam School in Varanasi’s Bhagwanpur, was brutally beaten to death on Thursday night following a heated parking dispute in the Bhelupur area’s Kabir Nagar colony, police said. The incident, which occurred at Matru Chhaya Apartment, has shocked the community and highlighted the dangers of escalating trivial conflicts.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Saravanan T, Jha argued with Adarsh Singh, a resident of the same apartment complex, over a parking spot. The altercation quickly turned violent when Singh, accompanied by two accomplices, allegedly attacked Jha with bricks and an iron rod. Jha sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The savage assault, detailed in posts on X, involved relentless blows to Jha’s head, leaving him no chance of survival.

Police swiftly arrested Singh and his two associates within three hours, aided by CCTV footage and witness accounts. A case has been registered under relevant murder charges based on a complaint from Jha’s family, who identified him as a respected educator at the prominent private school. The investigation revealed that one of the accused is reportedly the son of a Patna University dean, adding a layer of scrutiny to the case.

The murder has sparked outrage, with X posts describing it as a “horrific overreaction” to a minor issue. This incident follows a pattern of parking-related violence in the region, such as a February 2025 clash in Sonbhadra that injured two. Local residents are calling for community measures to prevent such tragedies, while police continue to interrogate the accused to uncover further motives.
