US Vice President JD Vance May Fly To Pakistan To Discuss Iran Conflict
JD Vance may visit Pakistan this weekend to discuss US-Iran war de-escalation efforts.
US Vice President JD Vance may travel to Pakistan later this week to engage in talks aimed at de-escalating the ongoing war in Iran, according to a CNN report. The move comes after Iranian negotiators reportedly declined to meet with former envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, prompting Pakistani officials to propose Vance as a potential chief US negotiator.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed the shift, stating that Vance has “always been a key member” of the president’s national security team and serves as a principal adviser to President Donald Trump on both domestic and foreign matters. She declined to specify which Iranian officials the US might engage with during the discussions.
Media reports suggest that Islamabad is being considered as a potential venue for negotiations, with the US and Iran possibly meeting as early as this week. Officials in Pakistan indicated that the timing and location of the talks remain fluid, as do the identities of other participants. The discussions are expected to focus on establishing an “off-ramp” from the conflict and exploring diplomatic solutions to the ongoing crisis.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his country’s readiness to “facilitate meaningful and conclusive talks” between the United States and Iran. Islamabad’s diplomatic push highlights its interest in playing a mediating role in the nearly month-long conflict, seeking to position itself as a neutral venue for negotiations.
The reports come amid broader international concern over the escalation of hostilities in the Middle East. Iranian representatives have reportedly refused to re-engage with the Trump administration’s previous negotiating team, creating a diplomatic opening for new interlocutors such as Vance to step in.
If confirmed, the visit would mark a significant development in the Trump administration’s efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Iran, emphasizing the increasing role of high-level US officials in direct negotiations with Tehran.
