UP Tragedy: Deaf-Mute Dalit Survivor Takes Life After Gang Rape

Deaf-mute Dalit woman dies by suicide after gang rape in Ghaziabad, sparking arrests and protests.

A 23-year-old deaf and mute Dalit woman, allegedly abducted and gang-raped by three individuals, was found dead by suicide in a village under the Loni Police Station area in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, police reported on Thursday. The tragic incident has ignited widespread outrage and protests.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari, the woman was abducted on August 18 and subjected to gang rape. After receiving medical treatment and returning home on Wednesday night, she was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room. Her father, a carpet seller, filed an FIR at Loni Police Station, alleging gang rape as the cause of her distress.

Police have arrested two of the three accused, Rohit (23) and Bhola (45), and are actively pursuing the third suspect. As the police transported the victim’s body for a postmortem, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) activists protested at the station, demanding justice. Authorities have assured the public that all culprits will be apprehended soon, as investigations continue to address this heinous crime.
