UP Encounter: Wanted Criminal Bhanu Pratap Singh With 40 Cases Killed in Ayodhya

UP STF killed wanted criminal Bhanu Pratap Singh in an Ayodhya encounter on Monday.

A wanted contract killer carrying rewards totaling more than Rs 1 lakh was killed in a police encounter in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Monday. The deceased, identified as Bhanu Pratap Singh, was wanted in numerous serious criminal cases and had remained absconding for several years despite extensive efforts by law enforcement agencies to trace him.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), Singh sustained injuries during the encounter and was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Authorities have not yet released detailed information regarding the circumstances that led to the encounter or the sequence of events preceding the operation.

Police records indicate that Singh had an extensive criminal background and was allegedly involved in a range of serious offenses, including murder, extortion, and dacoity. Investigators said he had been named in more than 40 criminal cases registered across different districts of Uttar Pradesh. His alleged involvement in organized criminal activities had made him one of the state's most wanted fugitives.

Officials stated that Singh had been evading arrest for years and frequently failed to appear before courts despite facing multiple criminal proceedings. Law enforcement agencies across several districts had launched repeated efforts to apprehend him, but he managed to avoid capture, leading to increased surveillance and coordinated operations by specialized police units.

Due to the seriousness of the charges against him and his prolonged absconding status, multiple police departments had announced cash rewards for information leading to his arrest. Azamgarh Police had declared a reward of Rs 1 lakh, while Ambedkar Nagar Police had separately announced a reward of Rs 50,000. Gorakhpur Police had also offered a reward of Rs 15,000 for information about his whereabouts.

The encounter marks a significant development in the state's efforts to track and apprehend individuals accused of serious criminal offenses. Authorities are expected to complete all mandatory legal and procedural formalities related to the encounter, while further details regarding the operation may emerge following official reports and investigations into the incident.
