UP Constable Dismissed for IPL Betting Racket; Two Women Arrested in Jhansi Operation

A police constable in Uttar Pradesh has been dismissed from service for allegedly being involved in an IPL betting racket in Jhansi. Two women linked to the operation were arrested during a police raid, while the constable, identified as Sumit Sahu, is currently absconding. Police said the betting network had allegedly been active for several months.

According to officials, the flat from where the two women were arrested had been rented by Sumit Sahu. A case has been registered against the accused under multiple sections, including the Gambling Act. Police teams are conducting raids at different locations to trace the dismissed constable and identify others connected to the racket.

During the raid, police claimed to have recovered valuables and betting-related materials worth crores of rupees. The seized items reportedly include yellow metal biscuits, coins, ornaments, metal colour bars valued at around Rs 1.5 crore, and cash amounting to Rs 18.9 lakh. Officers also recovered a laptop, 12 mobile phones and a rough register containing customer IDs and mobile numbers.

Investigators suspect the racket operated through online betting platforms during IPL matches. The electronic devices and records recovered from the flat are being examined to trace financial transactions and identify clients involved in the illegal betting operation. Police believe the network may have links extending beyond Jhansi.

Officials said strict action was taken against the constable because of the serious nature of the allegations and his alleged misuse of his position in the police department. Further investigation is underway, and authorities are trying to uncover the full scale of the IPL betting network.
