UP ATS Seizes Key Evidence in Conversion Racket Probe
Chhangur Baba’s mansion yields critical documents
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) intensified its investigation into an alleged religious conversion racket, raiding the mansion of Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba in Madhpur village, Utraula, on Friday. The ATS team, accompanied by Chhangur Baba, collected vital documents during an hour-long interrogation, marking a significant step in unraveling the case.
Chhangur Baba, the suspected mastermind, and his associate Neetu alias Nasreen were arrested on July 5 in Balrampur and are in custody until July 16, following an NIA court order. The duo, along with two others—Naveen alias Jamaluddin and Chhangur Baba’s son Mehboob, arrested in April—are accused of orchestrating conversions of Hindus and non-Muslims to Islam through coercion, financial incentives, and intimidation, violating the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021.
Authorities have labeled Chhangur Baba’s actions as “anti-national,” with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasizing strict action, including property seizures. On Wednesday, illegal structures linked to Chhangur Baba, built on government land, were demolished in Balrampur.
