UK-Based Chef From Bihar Invited to King Charles III's Royal Garden Party

Bihar-born chef Nand Kishor Yadav invited to royal garden party in Edinburgh.

Chef Nand Kishor Yadav, who was born in Motihari, Bihar, has received a rare invitation to the Royal Garden Party hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland. The invitation marks a significant moment in the chef's 25-year culinary career, which has taken him from India to the United States and the United Kingdom. Yadav described the occasion as a proud and humbling experience and said it was a moment he would treasure for the rest of his life.

The Royal Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse is an important event in the British royal calendar and forms part of the monarch's annual Holyrood Week, during which the King traditionally spends time in Scotland. The gathering celebrates achievements and contributions from communities and individuals. Reflecting on his invitation, Yadav said being welcomed to the historic palace made him think about the journey that brought him from India to a career in the UK's hospitality industry.

Yadav's culinary journey began in 1999 when he trained in the kitchens of luxury hotels in Rajasthan after growing up in Motihari. He developed experience in various regional Indian cuisines before expanding into international cooking. His career later took him to the United States, where he worked aboard a Carnival Cruise alongside chefs from different culinary backgrounds. In 2007, he moved to the UK to further develop his skills in fine dining and gained experience working under the leadership of British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

Over the years, Yadav has developed expertise in Indian, French, Italian, Mediterranean and South American cuisines, with fusion cooking becoming a notable part of his culinary profile. He is currently associated with The White Hart, a destination pub in the village of Holyport near London, where his work combines hospitality with community-focused initiatives. He has also used his culinary platform to support charitable activities and contribute to initiatives aimed at helping people in need.

The chef said he views the royal invitation not only as recognition of his professional journey but also as a celebration of his Indian heritage and the communities he has supported through his work. His wider vision, described as "Mission Possible", seeks to make The White Hart more than a hospitality venue by using it as a platform for community engagement and social responsibility. Through Ninaya Catering, a venture named after his wife and daughters, Yadav is also working to expand access to authentic Indian cuisine across south-east England.

For Yadav, the invitation represents a significant milestone after decades of work across multiple countries and culinary traditions. He said standing at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and participating in the prestigious event made him feel proud of his roots, his professional journey and what lies ahead. From his beginnings in Motihari to establishing himself in the UK's hospitality sector, the royal recognition adds another notable chapter to a career built around culinary skills, international experience and community involvement.
