Two-Seater Aircraft Goes Down In Baramati During Training Operation

Two-seater training aircraft crashes in Baramati, probe underway.

A two-seater training aircraft crashed in Maharashtra’s Baramati on Wednesday morning after making a hard landing in Gojubavi village, police said. The trainee pilot onboard reportedly ejected safely before the impact and survived the incident without major injuries, according to preliminary information from authorities.

Sandip Gill, Superintendent of Police of Pune district, said the aircraft belonged to Redbird Flight Training Organisation (FTO). Officials stated that the aircraft experienced difficulty during flight operations and subsequently made a hard landing within the village limits of Baramati. Emergency response teams and local police personnel reached the site shortly after the crash was reported.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the incident, and an investigation is expected to examine possible technical or operational factors behind the crash. Aviation officials are likely to inspect the wreckage and review flight records as part of the inquiry into the accident involving the training aircraft.

The incident has revived memories of an earlier aviation tragedy in Baramati earlier this year involving a chartered Learjet 45 aircraft operated by VSR Ventures. That crash, which occurred on January 28 during a flight from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai to Baramati airport, had been attributed to poor visibility and heavy fog conditions.

Initial reports at the time stated that the Learjet accident resulted in the death of senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar while he was piloting the aircraft. The earlier crash had triggered significant discussion around aviation safety and operational conditions during adverse weather in the region.

Wednesday’s accident involving the Redbird training aircraft did not result in fatalities, but officials said a detailed investigation would still be carried out to determine whether safety procedures were followed and whether any technical malfunction contributed to the hard landing. Further updates are expected after aviation authorities complete their preliminary assessment of the crash site.
