Two Police Constables Arrested After Foiled Dasna Jail Escape Plot

Ghaziabad constables caught red-handed in brazen prisoner escape scheme.

Two Ghaziabad police constables have been suspended and arrested for attempting to unlawfully release two inmates from Dasna Jail using fraudulent court documents. The incident, uncovered on October 4, 2025, has raised serious concerns about oversight within Uttar Pradesh’s law enforcement and prompted a rigorous investigation into potential systemic corruption.

The accused, Constables Rahul Kumar, 31, a 2015-batch officer from Muzaffarnagar, and Sachin Kumar, 28, a 2016-batch officer from Bulandshahr, were stationed at the Ghaziabad Police Lines. On Saturday, they arrived at Dasna Jail in a private vehicle, presenting what appeared to be a legitimate court order from Gautam Buddh Nagar, authorizing the transfer of six inmates for a court appearance. However, their insistence on releasing only two specific prisoners—Bijendra, charged with forgery, extortion, and money laundering, and Vansh, facing trials for robbery, attempt to murder, and Arms Act violations—aroused suspicion among jail authorities.

Upon verification, Dasna Jail officials confirmed with the Ghaziabad Police Lines that no prisoner transfers were scheduled, and no personnel had been dispatched. The constables’ attempt to flee the scene was thwarted, and they were apprehended by Kavi Nagar police later that day. An FIR was lodged by Reserve Inspector Chandra Bhan Singh, charging the officers under Sections 260 (intentional omission to apprehend) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kavinagar) Surya Bali Maurya, overseeing the investigation, stated that preliminary findings indicate the constables lacked any official authorization. “The forged document appears to be a manipulated version of a genuine court order, raising questions about how it was obtained and whether financial inducements were involved,” Maurya said. A departmental inquiry has been initiated to examine the constables’ motives, their access to falsified records, and any potential collusion with external parties, including the inmates’ associates.

Dasna Jail, housing over 4,200 inmates despite a capacity of 1,700, has faced scrutiny for previous lapses, including illicit activities and inadequate security protocols. The incident follows a pattern of disciplinary issues in Ghaziabad, with 39 officers suspended this year for various infractions. Experts underscore the need for stringent reforms, including digital tracking of prisoner movements and enhanced vetting of personnel. “Such incidents erode public confidence in law enforcement and necessitate immediate corrective measures,” said Dr. Anil Kumar, a criminology expert based in Lucknow.

The arrested constables are now in judicial custody, facing both criminal charges and internal disciplinary proceedings. Authorities are also investigating the inmates’ families for possible involvement. The Uttar Pradesh Police have pledged a thorough review to prevent future breaches, but this scandal highlights the urgent need for systemic changes to restore integrity and accountability within the force. As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on ensuring justice and safeguarding the public’s trust in law enforcement.
