Two Nepali Women Held For Posing as Maids to Rob Homes in Gujarat

Police in Adipur, Gujarat, have arrested two Nepali women who allegedly posed as domestic workers to facilitate house thefts, exposing an interstate burglary network linked to six cases across Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The total value of the property allegedly stolen by the gang is estimated at more than Rs 1 crore. East Kutch Police said three other accused remain absconding as investigators continue to examine the full extent of the alleged network.

The arrested women have been identified as 26-year-old Salina Shahi and 28-year-old Ravina Virendra, also known as Vivek Shahi, both natives of Nepal. According to police, the women secured employment as domestic workers in affluent residential areas and used their access to gain the trust of homeowners. Investigators allege that they gathered information about household routines and alerted their accomplices when residents were away, allowing the gang to target homes.

Police said the accused allegedly helped facilitate thefts involving cash, jewellery and other valuables. During interrogation, the women allegedly confessed to their involvement in thefts at three houses in Pune and one in Bengaluru, in addition to cases registered in Adipur and other parts of Maharashtra. Investigators said the gang is suspected of carrying out six interstate house burglaries, with the combined value of the stolen property exceeding Rs 1 crore.

During the operation, police recovered a gold ring, two mobile phones and Indian currency totalling Rs 1,85,790 from the two arrested women. Officers said Rs 1,69,200 in cash, along with a gold ring and a mobile phone, was recovered from Salina Shahi, while Ravina was allegedly found carrying Rs 16,590 and a mobile phone. Police said the recoveries form part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged theft network.

The arrests followed a coordinated investigation involving Adipur Police, Gandhidham Cyber Crime Police, the Local Crime Branch and surveillance teams. Acting on information that two Nepali women were seeking domestic work in housing societies in Adipur, police launched an operation and apprehended them before they could allegedly carry out another theft. Investigators also said stolen gold and other valuables were allegedly taken to Nepal and sold, with the proceeds reportedly used for travel, entertainment and air tickets.

Police are continuing efforts to trace and arrest the remaining accused, identified as Bhim Bahadur Shahi, Narendra Bahadur alias Vivek Shahi and Bhimbir alias Prans Shahi. Investigators are also examining whether the accused were involved in additional thefts beyond the six cases currently linked to the alleged gang. Further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the interstate network and determine the role of each suspect in the alleged burglaries.
