Two LPG Cylinders Stolen from Bengaluru Residences as Shortage Continues

Bengaluru reports multiple LPG cylinder thefts amid shortage; police urge vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activity.

Amid an ongoing LPG shortage across the country, Bengaluru has witnessed multiple incidents of LPG cylinder theft, raising concerns about safety and security in residential areas. Local authorities have urged residents to secure cylinders inside their homes and report any suspicious activity.

According to reports, two thefts have recently been recorded in Bengaluru. CCTV footage shared by Press Trust of India (PTI) shows one incident in the Kalyan Nagar area, where a man on a two-wheeler removed a cylinder wrapped in a sack from a residential property. Another incident in Channapatna captured two individuals on a scooter stealing a cylinder that had been left outside a house. Police have begun investigations, but no arrests have been made so far.

Thefts of LPG cylinders are not limited to Karnataka. In Tamil Nadu, a cylinder was stolen from Mengles Road, while in Thiruvananthapuram’s Chalai area, a filled cylinder was taken from V S Hotel at around 2 a.m., with CCTV footage documenting the act. In Uttar Pradesh, authorities recovered approximately 500 stolen LPG cylinders during the Holi festival in Jhansi, which had been taken during the celebrations and later traced by police.

PTI reported that in one Bengaluru incident, a gas agency worker delivering cylinders on a tricycle temporarily parked the vehicle to deliver a cylinder. Upon returning, he discovered that one of the loaded cylinders had been stolen, highlighting the growing risks to delivery personnel and households alike.

Local authorities in Bengaluru have urged residents to remain vigilant and take precautions, emphasizing that securing cylinders indoors and reporting suspicious movements can help prevent thefts. The incidents also underscore the broader impact of the nationwide LPG shortage, which has strained both supply chains and household safety measures.

Police continue to investigate the Bengaluru cases, reviewing CCTV footage and seeking leads to apprehend the culprits. Officials have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of residents amid the current LPG crisis.
