Two Arrested for Deliberately Running Over Pune Farmer in Bitter Property Dispute
Two arrested on murder charges after farmer deliberately run over in Pune property dispute.
Two persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a farmer who was run over by a car during a dispute over property in the Pune district, police said on Wednesday. The incident has drawn attention to rising tensions in rural land conflicts, with investigators indicating that the act was not accidental but a deliberate attack. Authorities from the Uruli Kanchan police station confirmed that the arrests were made following preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation into the fatal incident.
According to police officials, the victim was reportedly involved in a long-standing dispute related to land ownership or property rights. During the confrontation, the suspects allegedly used a car to run over the farmer, leading to his death. Investigators examining the case concluded that the vehicle was intentionally driven into the victim, transforming what might initially have appeared to be a road accident into a suspected case of homicide.
An officer from the Uruli Kanchan police station stated that the investigation established clear evidence suggesting the act was deliberate. "The probe revealed that running the victim over by car was a deliberate act, and we have arrested the two suspects on the charges of murder. The court has remanded them to police custody. Further probing is on,” the officer said. Police are currently questioning the accused to determine the exact sequence of events and whether others were involved in the crime.

Officials added that the suspects were produced before a local court following their arrest. The court subsequently remanded both individuals to police custody to allow investigators more time to gather evidence and reconstruct the events leading up to the incident. Police are also examining the vehicle used in the crime and collecting forensic evidence that may help strengthen the case.
Property disputes are a frequent source of conflict in several parts of rural Maharashtra, often escalating into violent confrontations. Law enforcement authorities say disagreements over land ownership, boundaries, and inheritance rights sometimes lead to prolonged tensions between families or individuals, making such cases particularly sensitive and complex to resolve.
Police officials have assured that the investigation will continue until all circumstances surrounding the farmer’s death are fully established. They are also appealing to residents with any information related to the case to come forward. Authorities said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing probe as they work to ensure accountability in the incident.
