Two Arrested for Brutal Rape of Dalit Girl in Muzaffarpur
Dalit girl raped, suspects nabbed.
Two men, a mobile repair shop owner and his employee, were arrested in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district for allegedly raping a Dalit girl and dumping her unconscious after striking her head with a rod. The incident, which occurred in the Aurai police station area, came to light after the girl, who went missing on Saturday while visiting the shop to fix her phone, was found critically injured on Sunday. Her father’s abduction complaint triggered an intensive police search, leading to her discovery and the suspects’ arrest.
The victim, battling a severe head injury, is undergoing treatment at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH). Police have charged the accused under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, citing the caste-based nature of the crime. A Congress delegation, led by state president Rajesh Kumar, visited SKMCH, alleging delayed medical attention until their intervention. “This shameful incident exposes Bihar’s lawlessness,” Kumar told reporters, demanding exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
The case has reignited outrage over crimes against Dalit women in Bihar, with opposition leaders like RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav criticizing the Nitish Kumar government’s failure to ensure safety. Recent similar incidents, including the rape and murder of a 14-year-old Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur in August 2024, have fueled protests and calls for systemic reforms to address caste-based violence and healthcare negligence.
